WHAT TRAINING COURSES ARE AVAILABLE FROM PIPPIN?

The following training and professional development opportunities are available:

PRE-REQUISITE INTRODUCTORY STUDY DAY

This course forms the basic building block for progression onto all other PIPPIN courses and programmes and successful completion of it is therefore a mandatory element. After attending this day, participants will be clear about the focus and format of approaches to supporting early parenting in Britain and how PIPPIN approaches contribute to, and complement these developments.

PARENT-INFANT FACILITATOR PROGRAMME

This five day parent-infant facilitator training programme aims to enable professional and voluntary sector workers to provide effective relationship-focused support in the transition to parenthood.

ORIENTATION TO PARENTING PROGRAMMES

These two-day events offer preparation and practice in advance of running our a) Preparation for Parenting (short antenatal programme), b) Parenting Your Baby (short postnatal programme) or c) First Steps in Parenting (antenatal, home-visit and postnatal) parenting programmes. These are followed by a series of Supervised Reflective Practice sessions while parenting groups are running. A comprehensive manual is provided for whichever parenting programme is being undertaken.

REFLECTIVE PRACTICE

It is the aim within PIPPIN to encourage self, peer and trainer/supervisor reflection and feedback. During the period when students are delivering their parenting programmes, Supervised Reflective Practice is offered by PIPPIN trainers.

ADVANCED PROGRAMME IN PARENT-INFANT EDUCATION & SUPPORT
(accredited by
Chiltern Region Open College Network)

Developed between 1989-1993 as part of a research study (Parr, 1996) that led to the setting up of PIPPIN, we have been running this externally recognised DfEE approved training course in various parts of the country since 1995. The training currently takes place over 14 days and can be run over one day per week or two days per month, over 1-2 terms.

Personal and professional development is integrated throughout the course. To date, only individuals who have successfully completed this course are able to offer PIPPIN's full validated antenatal and postnatal programme 'First Steps in Parenting' (Parr, 1996, revised 2003) to parents.
