A friendly place to learn about the big change in your life!
HOW WOULD YOU LIKE
Everyone's telling you how hard it is. Parenting groups with PIPPIN make it easier. And fun. Time to find out more ...
PIPPIN GROUPS ARE A GREAT SAFE PLACE TO LEARN ABOUT YOURSELF AND YOUR BABY. You'll get far more out of the groups than you'll ever get out of books, and you'll enjoy yourself at the same time. You'll share ideas, fears, laughter, maybe tears ... and you'll find yourself better prepared to cope with all the ups and downs of life with a new baby. What's it all about and is it for me? What will I get out of my PIPPIN Group?
PIPPIN is a Charity. The name is short for "Parents In Partnership - Parent Infant Network". A long name with a short aim: to get mums and dads off to a happy start! PIPPIN does that by training professionals and others who work directly with parents - often midwives and health visitors - to provide special parenting sessions. These focus on helping anyone (from all over the country and from all backgrounds) to manage much better the difficult changes you face when you become a parent.
PIPPIN groups include all sorts of people. Married and unmarried couples, single mums and dads, sometimes other people who are looking after a new baby. It's excellent if both parents-to-be can come, but don't be put off if only one of you can, or if you're on your own (in some areas there are classes specifically for people in the same boat as you). In your group, there'd be up to twelve parents-to-be like you, some there with their partners, some without. Everyone in your group will be expecting their babies about the same time as you. Your group will be led by someone specially qualified, called a PIPPINfacilitator, who won't give you bossy advice, but will know how to help you use your natural skills better. And you'll pick up all kinds of ways of making life with a baby much easier for yourself.
There's lots of chat, sharing ideas, learning about the emotional changes that may affect each of us. It's not heavy, it's not academic, it's sometimes good fun .. sometimes quite serious ... sometimes exciting ... and don't worry, even if going the first time is a bit scary, once you're there, you'll always feel safe in a PIPPIN session. You'll find the support you get from everyone there - not just the group leader, but also others in your group - will make you more confident about having a baby in your life. And you'll find that the things you want to say will be important. You'll be appreciated and valued by the whole group. And after your baby's born, he/she will become a welcomed and equally important member of the group. With the support of the PIPPIN facilitator, your baby will then become your teacher, showing you and all the other parents what babies really need in order to feel good about themselves as they grow up. It won't matter if your baby sleeps all the way through, cries, needs feeding or a nappy change - you will be supported with whatever is going on for you and your baby during the sessions.
WHAT WILL I GET OUT OF MY PIPPIN GROUP? You'll really appreciate the friendly support you'll find from the group facilitator and the other mums and dads. You'll get a great deal out of what you learn here. Skills, confidence, knowledge and ideas that'll help you immediately - and for years. Here's a selection of comments people have made about their PIPPIN groups. You'll have lots more of your own to add when you join yours! "I feel a much calmer person and more confident" "It helped us look forward to becoming a family" "It's made me more aware of my child's needs" "... somewhere safe, where I could say how I felt"
Joining a PIPPIN group is FREE! The only cost is your time.
